Power Behind-The-Ear

Phonak Naída™ Lumity

Phonak’s most powerful hearing aid family — a behind-the-ear (BTE) device designed for patients with moderate, severe, or profound hearing loss. SmartSpeech AI technology, universal Bluetooth, and compatibility with Phonak’s Roger wireless microphone system. Fitted by Dr. Rossetti in Fort Lauderdale.

Phonak Naída Lumity is built for patients whose hearing loss has progressed beyond what slim, sleek hearing aids can amplify. If you have moderate, severe, or profound hearing loss — or if standard receiver-in-canal devices haven’t given you enough power — the Naída family is the right place to start. Here’s how it works and how it differs from Phonak’s other lines.

Phonak Naída Lumity ultra-power behind-the-ear hearing aid
The Phonak Naída Lumity — built to deliver more amplification than any other Phonak device.

What Makes Naída Lumity Different

Power. That’s the single-word answer. The Naída family is engineered specifically for the audiometric range that small RIE devices struggle to serve. The receiver, the battery, the microphones, and the housing are all sized to deliver more gain (amplification), more output (maximum volume), and more battery life than any other Phonak family.

The Naída Lumity uses Phonak’s SmartSpeech Technology — an AI-powered sound processing system that runs 700 environmental scans per second and selects from over 200 unique program combinations to match what you’re hearing. The system is the result of 22 years of Phonak machine-learning research.

Speech Enhancer is a feature unique to Naída that helps you hear soft speech at a distance in quiet environments — a common difficulty for patients with severe-to-profound loss who often miss conversations from across the room.

Who Naída Lumity Works Well For

  • Adults with moderate, severe, or profound hearing loss — this is the device family designed for your audiogram. Smaller hearing aids physically can’t deliver enough amplification for your needs.
  • Patients who’ve outgrown their previous hearing aids — if your hearing has gotten worse and your current device isn’t helping like it used to, Naída is often the next step up.
  • Patients with dexterity considerations — the BTE form factor is the easiest to handle: large enough to grip, robust enough to handle, with simple controls.
  • Patients who use Roger wireless microphones — Naída pairs seamlessly with the full Roger lineup (On, Select, Table Mic, Clip-On) for difficult listening situations.
  • Adult children buying for a parent — if you’re researching for an elderly parent with progressive hearing loss, this is typically the right product family to explore. The BTE form factor is also the easiest to insert/remove for caregivers helping with daily routines.

Where It’s Less of a Fit

  • Mild hearing loss — Naída is more amplification than you need. Phonak’s Audéo Sphere Infinio (RIE) or Lyric (invisible) would be more appropriate.
  • Patients who prioritize cosmetic invisibility — Naída is a behind-the-ear device. It’s the most visible form factor. If invisibility is critical, this isn’t the right product.
  • Single-sided deafness — Phonak’s CROS system is a better starting point.

The Four Naída Lumity Models

Phonak offers Naída Lumity in four variants for different power needs and battery preferences:

  • Naída L-M — for mild to moderate hearing loss. Standard model with telecoil and universal Bluetooth.
  • Naída L-SP — for mild to severe hearing loss. Same features as L-M with more output power.
  • Naída L-PRrechargeable model for mild to moderately-severe loss. No batteries to change.
  • Naída L-UPultra power for severe to profound hearing loss. The most powerful Phonak hearing aid available.

During your consultation, Dr. Rossetti will help you choose the right model based on your audiogram, battery preference, and lifestyle.

How We Fit Naída Lumity at Florida Hearing Matters

Power BTE devices like Naída Lumity require careful fitting to balance maximum amplification with comfort. Here’s what every fitting at Florida Hearing Matters includes:

  • Comprehensive audiometric evaluation — mapping your exact hearing loss profile to confirm Naída is the right power class
  • Real-ear verification — we measure exactly what the device is delivering to your eardrum and program accordingly. Critical for severe-to-profound losses where over- or under-amplification both cause problems.
  • Custom earmold fitting — Naída power models typically use a custom-molded earmold (vs. the soft dome on RIE devices) for a tight acoustic seal that prevents feedback at high gain levels
  • Lifestyle consultation — we set up programs for your typical environments (quiet home, family meals, places of worship, etc.)
  • Follow-up visits included — typically four visits in the first 60 days for power-BTE fittings (vs. three for RIE) because your brain needs more time to adjust to the new amplification levels
  • 60-day satisfaction guarantee
  • Caregiver instructions — if a family member will help with daily handling, we’ll walk them through insertion, removal, charging/battery, and cleaning

Frequently Asked Questions

How loud can Naída Lumity get?

The Naída L-UP model delivers up to 141 dB maximum output (MPO) — the most of any Phonak hearing aid. For most patients with severe-to-profound loss, this is enough headroom for safe, comfortable amplification across all environments. We’ll set your actual output during fitting based on your loudness discomfort levels.

Will I hear feedback (whistling)?

Not if it’s fitted properly. Power hearing aids can feedback when there’s acoustic leakage between the receiver (sound output) and microphones. That’s why we use a custom-molded earmold for Naída fittings — not a soft dome. A well-fit earmold creates a tight acoustic seal that prevents feedback even at maximum gain.

Rechargeable or disposable batteries?

Both options exist. The Naída L-PR is rechargeable (good for mild-to-moderately-severe loss). The L-M, L-SP, and L-UP use disposable size-13 or 675 batteries (depending on model). Power hearing aids draw more current than slim devices, so disposable batteries are still common in the most powerful models — they last about 5-10 days each. Dr. Rossetti will help you choose based on your travel habits and preferences.

Will Naída Lumity work with my iPhone? My Android?

Yes to both. Naída uses Phonak’s universal Bluetooth, which works with any phone (no special accessory needed). Hands-free calling is supported with iPhone; Android supports streaming and most call features. The myPhonak app works on both platforms.

What is Roger, and do I need it?

Roger is Phonak’s line of wireless remote microphones — tiny devices you can clip on a conversation partner, place on a restaurant table, or pass around a meeting room. The audio streams directly into your Naída hearing aids with no delay. Research shows Roger significantly improves understanding in difficult listening environments, especially for older adults. We’ll discuss whether it’s right for your situation.

Will my insurance cover it?

Hearing aid coverage varies by plan. Many plans offer partial coverage; some cover hearing aids only for certain audiogram ranges (which Naída often qualifies for due to the severity of loss it serves). We verify your benefits before your appointment — call us at (954) 999-5495 with your insurance card information.
