Research has found that hearing loss as a risk factor for dementia dates back years, but now a recent study released last month in the Journal for the American Medical Association finds that that link is strong. It matches first-hand observations from audiologist Valerie Rossetti. Dr. Rossetti is an audiologist and the owner of Florida Hearing Matters in Fort Lauderdale. She states that 32% of patients that have cognitive decline also have hearing loss. Dr. Rossetti states that at Florida Hearing Matters, they are seeing about 75% of their patients are asking about cognitive decline. Rossetti says prevention and treatment can include regular hearing tests and hearing aids.
