What Your Plan Covers Depends on Your Plan
This is the part that causes the most confusion, so we will be direct about it: there is no single UnitedHealthcare hearing benefit. What you get depends on which kind of plan you have.
- Medicare Advantage plans frequently include a hearing aid allowance, and some are substantial. The amount and the renewal period vary by plan.
- Employer and group plans vary widely. Some include a hearing aid benefit, some cover testing only, some offer discounted pricing rather than coverage.
- Individual and family plans often provide member pricing on hearing aids rather than a dollar allowance.
- Original Medicare (Parts A and B) does not cover hearing aids or routine hearing exams at all. If you have Original Medicare plus a supplement, check whether the supplement adds a hearing benefit.
