Intelligence Augmented AI

ReSound Vivia

Gold Healthcare Award — Best Use of AI

The world’s smallest AI hearing aid, with Intelligence Augmented technology and the world’s first Auracast Assistant. ReSound’s flagship enhances your brain’s natural hearing rather than replacing it. Fitted by Dr. Rossetti in Fort Lauderdale.

ReSound Vivia is built around a different philosophy than the other AI hearing aids on the market. Instead of trying to outsmart the brain, ReSound’s engineering augments what your brain already does well naturally. The result is a hearing aid that feels more like an extension of your own hearing — not a separate system fighting for control of what you listen to.

What Makes ReSound Vivia Different

ReSound calls their approach Intelligence Augmented — a deliberate counterpoint to “artificial intelligence” that takes over for you. Their philosophy is rooted in a simple observation: your brain is already the most powerful sound processor on Earth. A good hearing aid shouldn’t replace that processing — it should remove the noise that’s interfering with it so your brain can do its natural work.

Technically, this is implemented via a Deep Neural Network (DNN) chip trained on the sounds of real life — thousands of hours of restaurant noise, traffic, wind, kitchen sounds, paper rustling, car horns, etc. The DNN identifies which sounds are likely speech and which are likely noise, then applies what ReSound calls “Intelligent Focus”: it tones down the noise while preserving the speech. The brain takes it from there.

The practical effect that patients describe: noise melts away into the background without speech becoming artificial or processed-sounding. You’re not hearing “a hearing aid’s version of the world” — you’re hearing the world with the distractions softened.

Three Form Factors, One Platform

Vivia comes in three sizes, all running the same AI sound processing:

  • microRIE — the world’s smallest AI hearing aid. Rechargeable, behind-the-ear style with a very small housing. Best for patients who prioritize maximum discretion in a BTE/RIE form.
  • RIE 61 (size 312) — standard rechargeable receiver-in-ear. Slightly larger housing, longer battery runtime, easier handling for patients with dexterity considerations.
  • RIE 62 (size 13) — non-rechargeable receiver-in-ear. Uses replaceable 13-size batteries. Best for patients who travel frequently and don’t want to manage a charger, or who prefer the predictability of swappable batteries.

All three are weatherproof (nanocoated on every part), share the same connectivity features, and use the same fitting and adjustment process at our office. The choice between them is about lifestyle — not technology.

World’s First Auracast Assistant

Auracast is a new Bluetooth-based broadcast standard rolling out in public venues — airports, train stations, theaters, conference centers, places of worship. It lets a venue broadcast audio directly to compatible hearing devices, replacing or supplementing the old telecoil/hearing-loop systems.

ReSound Vivia includes the world’s first Auracast Assistant, accessible through the ReSound Smart 3D app. You can scan for available Auracast streams nearby, see public (unencrypted) and private (encrypted) options, and connect with a tap. Adoption of Auracast in venues is still growing, but Vivia is fully future-ready.

Who ReSound Vivia Works Well For

  • Adults with mild to severe hearing loss — the RIE form covers the standard audiometric range.
  • Patients who’ve struggled with “over-processed” hearing aids — if previous devices made the world sound artificial or tinny, ReSound’s philosophy of preserving natural sound while reducing noise may suit you better.
  • Patients who prioritize hearing in noisy environments — ReSound claims “world’s best for hearing in noise.” The DNN chip is specifically optimized for restaurant and group-conversation scenarios.
  • Active adults who want maximum discretion — the microRIE form factor is the smallest AI hearing aid on the market.
  • Patients who travel, attend conferences, or use public venues — Auracast Assistant becomes more valuable as more venues adopt the standard. Vivia is the only hearing aid with this feature today.
  • iPhone users (11 or later) — hands-free calling, direct streaming, full Smart 3D app integration.

Where It’s Less of a Fit

  • Profound hearing loss — the small form factor limits maximum amplification. ReSound makes more powerful BTE models for profound loss.
  • Patients who prioritize completely invisible — Vivia is small but visible behind the ear. Phonak Lyric remains the only fully invisible option.
  • Older Android phones without Bluetooth 5.3 — full feature access requires modern phones. We’ll check compatibility before recommending Vivia for non-iPhone users.
  • Patients who specifically want a custom in-the-ear shell — Vivia is RIE only. For custom in-the-ear style, Oticon Zeal NXT is a better fit.

Color Options

Vivia comes in 10 colors across all three form factors — classic neutrals plus contemporary navy blue and red:

ReSound Vivia available in 10 colors: Sparkling Silver, Sand, Gold, Bronze, Warm Grey, Graphite, Espresso, Deep Black, Navy Blue, Red
10 colors to match your hair, complexion, or personal preference.

The Organic Hearing Philosophy

ReSound’s engineering approach has a name: Organic Hearing. It’s a long-standing design philosophy at GN Hearing (ReSound’s parent company), and it shapes every aspect of how their hearing aids process sound.

The core idea: human hearing is fundamentally a brain activity, not just an ear activity. Your brain naturally filters, localizes, and prioritizes sound. A hearing aid’s job is to feed the brain enough acoustic information to do that work, not to make those decisions for the brain. This is why ReSound generally avoids the aggressive directional beamforming that some competitors use — it would interfere with the brain’s natural spatial processing.

In practical terms, Vivia tends to sound more natural and less fatiguing than aggressively-processed alternatives, especially over long days. Patients often comment that they don’t feel like they’re “wearing” the hearing aid after the first week of acclimation.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does “Intelligence Augmented” actually mean?

It’s ReSound’s name for their approach to AI in hearing aids. Rather than using AI to make all the hearing decisions for you (which some competitors do), Vivia uses AI to filter out noise so your brain can do its natural processing more easily. The result is sound that feels more natural and less artificial than aggressively-processed alternatives. Think of it as removing distractions rather than rewriting the audio.

What is Auracast, and why does it matter?

Auracast is a new Bluetooth-based broadcast standard rolling out in public venues. It lets airports, theaters, conference rooms, train stations, and places of worship broadcast audio directly to hearing devices — replacing or supplementing the old telecoil/hearing-loop systems. ReSound Vivia is the only hearing aid with an “Auracast Assistant” built into its app for scanning and selecting available broadcasts. Adoption is still growing, but Vivia is future-ready.

Which form factor should I choose?

All three Vivia models use the same AI processing — the choice is about lifestyle. microRIE is the smallest and most discreet (and the world’s smallest AI hearing aid). RIE 61 is slightly larger, with a more robust housing and longer battery life. RIE 62 uses replaceable batteries instead of rechargeable — ideal for frequent travelers who don’t want to manage a charger. Dr. Rossetti will help you decide during consultation.

Does it work with my iPhone? My Android?

Yes to iPhone 11 or later (and recent iPads). For Android, full feature access requires Bluetooth 5.3 or later — that’s most Android phones from 2023 onward. Older phones may have limited compatibility. We’ll verify with your specific device during consultation.

How long does the battery last?

A full charge gives you all-day use including streaming. The rechargeable models (microRIE and RIE 61) include a charging case that doubles as a dehumidifier for overnight storage. The RIE 62 uses standard size-13 disposable batteries that typically last 5–7 days each.

Will my insurance cover it?

Hearing aid coverage varies by plan. Many plans offer partial coverage or annual allowances. We verify your benefits before your appointment — just call (954) 999-5495 with your insurance card information.

What if Vivia isn’t right for me?

We include a 60-day satisfaction guarantee. If Vivia isn’t the right hearing aid for your life, return it for a refund of the device cost. Most patients use the 60-day window to test the device in their actual day-to-day environments — work, family meals, social events — before fully committing.
